A sleek and simple study lamp has taken the world of design by storm. Studylite, an LED lamp designed by an NID faculty has won the reddot Product Design Award 2010 — which can be termed as the Oscars of product design — for its sheer simplicity. The lamp, inspired by the halo above the wise and saintly, has been designed by Studio ABD headed by Abhijit Bansod, who is also the chief of the O P Jindal Design Research chair at National Institute of Design (NID), Bangalore.

StudyLite shone out in the lightening and lamps category for the award instituted by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany.

Beats 56 countries
StudyLite came out winner from among 4,252 entries from 57 countries. Past reddot award winners include Apple, BMW, Herman Miller, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, Philips and Omega.
